Location: Lawrence Gardens, Lahore Pakistan. This photograph was taken on my recent trip back to Pakistan after 10 years. Although arguably I have less freedom over there compared to here in the UK, when it comes to feeling free mentally, there was no comparison. The absence of feeling the continual need to be productive, or constantly working, or even just filling my time with more and more ‘things’ created so much more headspace for me. I was free mentally which allowed me to be truly present. I also chose this photo specifically because parks and gardens in the heart of busy cities have always been able to provide me with a sense of escape. They’re surrounded by chaos, and noise, and reminders of stress, but when I’m in these spaces and able to look up, I can feel free.

The place I find the most solace and freedom is when I am designing and pattern cutting in the studio. Although working in the medium of garments does not allow me to pursue all the ideas and ambitions I have. It's the one I'm most skilled in and facilities my vision the best.
When I am locked in with designing a new collection or constructing various pieces, I find comfort in the knowledge that in that moment I am contributing to the development of my craft and doing my best to innovate.
Furthermore, perhaps the biggest benefit of finding peace in this environment is how it allows me to zone out and concentrate, due to how invested I am with what I'm working on.

“Location: My studio, East London. When asked the place I feel most free, the obvious choice was my studio, a space I deem as my sacred space. Quite literally the place where I have the most agency, and control, and a place I cherish. I’ve spent hundreds of hours in this room, painting, thinking, reading etc, and feels the most apt when talking about freedom. It’s where I create and where I feel the most myself, and the most free to be myself.

At this point in my life, Covid started and after being at uni for 6 months i came back home and started working on my personal project: Downtown Kayoto. Since lockdown had just begun there were madddd curfews and shit, but i remember me and boy thought ,fuck it .... It was a time i defied by own expectations as well as society's. I locked myself in my room for hours daily to record, edit, mix and establish my vision. The song i released shortly after did pretty well, and i'd like to think that this photo was the 1st time I felt like "Downtown Kayoto". I jumped so high that I saw a glimpse of my potential and everyday since then I've been working towards what I saw.

Location: This football cage is located by Hood House, Camberwell, South East London.Ironically this specific football cage is a place I associate with freedom. When I’m playing football, nothing else matters, I’m free of all burdens, past and future. Expressing myself through the game. Only thing that matters is what’s happening in the present. On the pitch, between whistles. It’s like at that time, I’m someone else almost and the world doesn’t even exist.

I feel being in the company of friends is what makes me feel most free. Almost feels like escapism sometimes.

One place that comes to mind was last year when I took my mum to Morocco and we spent a night in the Agafay desert. This was such a special trip, somewhere completely new for both of us. Something about being in the middle of nowhere, with no internet connection and just the insanely beautiful landscape felt so freeing. I just remember running around, up and down the hills feeling like a child again. I think its moments like this when there aren’t any outside distractions and you have to be super present that you really realise what’s important in life and are filled with lots of emotions of gratitude and excitement. I was in this very remote and magical place with my mum, the most important and influential person in my life. The idea that I was able to plan this as a surprise for her also made me feel that much more free and independent and left me so incredibly motivated to be able to do this again and for everyone that I love. Having one on one time is something I cherish and find incredibly nourishing and freeing.
